We have just 13 days to defeat North Dakota Measure 3, which will be on the state’s primary ballot June 12th. It is a state constitutional amendment that simply goes too far and could deny a woman basic medical care such as birth control. We need your help.

This dangerous amendment states that “The right to act or refuse to act in a manner motivated by a sincerely held religious belief may not be burdened unless the government proves it has no compelling governmental interest…” We need your help because if this state constitutional amendment passes, it will certainly move to other states and it could have far reaching and alarming consequences:

• A man could claim domestic violence or child abuse laws don’t apply to him because his religious beliefs give him the right to beat his wife and children.
• An employer could deny birth control coverage or other needed medical treatment to a woman under its health plan on basis of the employer’s religious belief.
• A pharmacy could refuse to fill a birth control prescription on the basis of its religious belief.

Help the campaign to defeat Measure 3 and put an end to this so-called “religious freedom” amendment that could endanger women’s health. If passed, Measure 3 will spread - we cannot allow this to happen. Say NO to 3!

When you’re passing a law lobbied by a specific religious, who doesn’t have a problem putting the signs with “VOTE FOR MEASURE 3” in the lawns in front of the church, you know you have one hell of a problem.

Here is a Georgia State Trooper in riot gear at a KKK protest in a north Georgia city back in the 80s. The Trooper is black. Standing in front of him and touching his shield is a curious little boy dressed in a Klan hood and robe. I have stared at this picture and wondered what must have been going through that Trooper’s mind. Before the Trooper is an innocent child who is being taught to hate him because of the color of his skin. The child doesn’t understand what he is being taught, and at this point he doesn’t seem to care. Like any other child his curiosity takes hold and he wants to explore this new thing that this man is holding probably because he can see his reflection in it and that’s a neat thing and he wants to check it out. In this picture I see innocence mixed with hate, the irony of a black man protecting the right of white people to assemble in protest against him, temperance in the face of ignorance, and hope that racism can be broken because this young boy may remember that a black man smiled at him once and he didn’t seem so bad after all.

POWERFUL. 

A part of me wishes we could take these children away from their hateful families. In my opinion teaching a child to hate others so strongly it blocks out their natural curiosity and eagerness to interact with EVERYONE is about as abusive as physically beating that child.

They are being psychologically abused.

That amount of hate is unnatural.

This child obviously proves just how much is going to be needed to turn his curiosity off to allow ignorance in. That’s the most painful thing I can possibly imagine.

Steve once was on a hot date and noticed that a little kid in his date’s neighborhood was having a Blues Clues party, so he pulled the outfit out of his trunk (because he carried it with him everywhere) and crashed the party, giving that little kid the greatest god damned birthday party ever.

I am not making that up, that really happened. Steve is the perfect human being.
